Types of Corneal Surgeries

Full Corneal Transplantation

In this procedure, a complete human cornea is transplanted to replace the diseased cornea. It is performed in cases where diseases affect all layers of the cornea.

Partial Corneal Transplantation

This procedure involves transplanting one or more layers of the human cornea to replace the affected layers. It is a technically advanced surgery with excellent results, and the body’s rejection rate of the transplanted part is much lower than that of full corneal transplantation. It is suitable for most cases of keratoconus in the intermediate stage, corneal surface opacities, and damage to the corneal endothelium.

Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking

In this procedure, the cornea is injected with vitamin B12 and exposed to ultraviolet radiation to strengthen the corneal tissue in cases of corneal weakness, particularly in the early stage of keratoconus.

Ring Implantation

This procedure involves implanting rings inside the cornea. It is performed in cases of keratoconus in the early or intermediate stage to correct irregular astigmatism. The procedure is now performed using femtosecond laser technology, which provides more precise and better results.
